چکیده

Currently, the best performing state-of-art large vocabulary speech recognition systems are statistical pattern classifiers which model sound units using hidden Markov models (HMMs). Given a sequence of data X derived from the speech signal, the classification problem that is solved is that of finding the class c(X) for which the following expression, given by Bayes classification rule, is maximized: (1)

HMM-based visual speech recognition using intensity and location normalization

This paper describes intensity and location normalization techniques for improving the performance of visual speech recognizers used in audio-visual speech recognition. For auditory speech recognition, there exist many methods for dealing with channel characteristics and speaker individualities, e.g., CMN (cepstral mean normalization), SAT (speaker adaptive training). We present two techniques ...

Artificial bandwidth extension for speech signals using speech recogniton

In this paper, we propose a non-realtime speech bandwidth extension method using HMM-based speech recognition and HMM-based speech synthesis. In the proposed method, first, the phoneme-state sequence is estimated from the bandlimited speech signals using the speech recognition technique. Next, for estimating spectrum envelopes of lost high-frequency components, an HMM-based speech synthesis tec...

Creating Large Subword Units for Speech Recogntion

This paper deals with the choice of suitable subword units (SWU) for a HMM based speech recognition system. Using demisyllables (including phonemes) as base units, an inventory of domain-specific larger sized subword units, so-called macro-demisyllables (MDS), is created. A quality measure for the automatic decomposition of all single words into subword units is presented which takes into accou...

Speech enhancement based on hidden Markov model using sparse code shrinkage

This paper presents a new hidden Markov model-based (HMM-based) speech enhancement framework based on the independent component analysis (ICA). We propose analytical procedures for training clean speech and noise models by the Baum re-estimation algorithm and present a Maximum a posterior (MAP) estimator based on Laplace-Gaussian (for clean speech and noise respectively) combination in the HMM ...
